A Lab Built Around Real RF Projects
Distributors are often described as pass-through channels, but the work that helps RF customers most happens before and after the sale. BeiLuo's new RF lab exists to do that work: to measure how Skyworks devices behave in a real system, so that the recommendations we make are grounded in measurement rather than data sheets alone. The lab covers the four Skyworks RF lines we supply, from front-end modules and amplifiers to switches and filters.
What the Lab Measures
The lab's first job is front-end characterization. For a module, that means measuring transmit gain, output power, linearity and receive noise figure across the band and across temperature. For an amplifier, it means measuring gain, noise figure and stability under the source and load impedances the customer's board presents. For a switch, it means measuring insertion loss and isolation across frequency and in each control state. Those measurements turn a data-sheet figure into a design decision.
Coexistence Validation
The hardest RF problems are coexistence problems, and they are system properties rather than component ones. The lab validates coexistence by injecting a strong blocker in an adjacent band and measuring the degradation of the wanted channel, with the filter in place and removed, so the improvement is quantified. For Wi-Fi 7 designs in the 6 GHz band, where the coexistence pressure is greatest, this measurement is often what decides whether a filter is sufficient.
Antenna and System Measurements
Many RF issues appear only when the complete system is measured, because the antenna and the board interact. The lab can measure a customer's board with its antenna, quantify the real isolation between paths in a multi-antenna design, and identify coupling that a component-level test would miss. That system view is what turns a marginal design into a robust one.
Data That Improves Advice
The value of the lab is not only the tests it runs, but the data it accumulates. Over time, the results form a picture of how each family behaves across applications, and that picture makes our selection advice more precise. When a customer asks whether a module will meet a coexistence requirement, or whether an LNA will reach a target noise figure, we can answer from measured experience rather than from generalities.
How Customers Use It
Customers can request lab support during design-in or before a production commitment. Typical engagements include front-end characterization for a Wi-Fi radio, coexistence validation for a dense multi-radio product, and comparison of two candidate filters on a real board. The work is bounded, so customers know what to expect, and the output is a short report with measurements and recommendations.
Quality Behind the Products
The lab also supports our quality processes. Incoming parts can be verified, failed units can be characterized before an RMA is raised, and unusual behaviour can be reproduced under controlled conditions. That reduces the back-and-forth that otherwise stretches a support case, and it gives customers a clear technical answer when a design or a part behaves unexpectedly.
Training and Knowledge Transfer
The lab is also a place where knowledge is transferred rather than only consumed. When a customer's engineers visit, the session is as much about method as about results: how to measure a noise figure correctly, how to validate coexistence, and how to interpret an isolation reading. That transfer multiplies the value of the lab across a customer's future designs, and it reduces the number of support cases that begin with a question the customer could answer with the right procedure. We publish what we are able to generalize as support articles, so the wider customer base benefits from what a single engagement uncovers.
Booking and Availability
Because the lab supports live customer engagements, time is scheduled through the account manager and aligned with the customer's design milestones, so the measurements land when a decision has to be made rather than after it. Customers planning a production commitment should book their session early enough that the results can still influence the board or the antenna design.
Book a Session
The Skyworks RF lab is available to customers through their account manager. Bring a real design question, and we will build the representative test, measure the result and tell you what the data shows, so you can commit to production with fewer surprises.
