Overview

The Internet of Things puts a radio into devices that were never radios before: thermostats, doorbells, sensors, wearables and appliances. Those products are small, battery-powered and cost-sensitive, and they still need to connect reliably in a crowded 2.4 GHz band. The RF front end has to be compact, efficient and predictable, which is exactly what integrated Skyworks modules and filters provide. BeiLuo supplies them as an authorized Skyworks distributor with FAE support for compact, low-power designs.

Small, Efficient, Predictable

An IoT product cannot afford a large discrete front end, so integration is the first requirement. A module such as the SKY85354-11 brings the transmit/receive switch, power amplifier and low-noise amplifier into a 3 by 3 millimetre package, which removes most of the matching work and shrinks the board. Because the module is tuned as a unit, performance is consistent from unit to unit, which matters when a product ships in large volumes at a low price.

Protecting Battery Life

Many IoT products run on batteries or harvest energy, so current draw is as important as output power. Choosing amplifiers with low supply current, and using the lowest output power that meets the link budget, extends battery life directly. Where a design needs gain in a signal chain, a broadband gain block such as the SKY65017-70LF provides it efficiently and is easy to bias.

Coexistence in a Crowded Band

The 2.4 GHz band is shared by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and more, and an IoT device often runs more than one of them. A filter such as the SKY33106-360LF keeps the 2.4 GHz band clean and lets the radios coexist without interfering. Because the filter is only 2 by 2 millimetres, the area cost is small compared with the benefit, and it is far cheaper than fixing a coexistence problem after the product ships.

Designing for the Antenna

IoT products often have small or integrated antennas, so the RF path from the module to the antenna must be short and well matched. Keep the trace impedance-controlled, provide a solid ground reference, and avoid placing the antenna near metal or the power supply. These details decide whether the product achieves its rated range.

Why BeiLuo

We hold mainstream Skyworks modules and filters in regional stock and support prototype through production quantities. Every part ships with import, origin and RoHS documentation, and our FAE team helps with the first design-in even at low volume.

Testing in the Real Environment

An IoT product is tested where it will live, not on the bench. Walls, furniture, metal and other radios all change the effective range, so measure the product in a representative environment rather than in open air. Confirm the coexistence margins with the other radios active, and check the current draw under the real duty cycle, because battery life depends on how the product is used rather than on the data sheet. These tests are what turn a working prototype into a dependable product.

Next Steps

Send your radio, size and power constraints and we will propose a compact front-end set, confirm availability, and supply samples for validation.
