Overview

The smartphone is the most demanding RF environment in consumer electronics. A single handset carries Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS and multiple cellular bands, all inside an enclosure a few millimetres thick, and 5G new radio adds wide bandwidth and carrier aggregation on top. The front end has to route and amplify all of that without interference or wasted power. BeiLuo supplies the Skyworks front-end modules, switches and filters that make mobile radios work, as an authorized Skyworks distributor with FAE support for coexistence and layout.

The Mobile Front-End Challenge

A handset front end must handle several bands and several antennas in a very small space. It must amplify the transmit signal efficiently to preserve battery life, keep the receive path quiet enough for weak signals, and route signals among bands and antennas without adding loss. Skyworks addresses this with the Sky5 platform for 5G new radio and with a broad portfolio of switches, filters and amplifiers that fit the space and coexistence budgets of a handset. Integration is essential here, because every discrete component costs board area and every millimetre matters.

Coexistence in a Small Box

Because so many radios share a small enclosure, their bands sit close together and their filters must separate them. Bulk acoustic wave filters such as the SKY85921-11 provide the steep transition needed to keep high bands clean next to neighbouring services, while SAW filters handle lower bands economically. Without this filtering, one radio degrades the others, and the product fails its coexistence requirements.

Switching and Carrier Aggregation

Carrier aggregation combines several carriers at once, which places heavy demands on the linearity of the switches and amplifiers in the path. High-linearity switches such as the SKY13373-460LF route the radio among antennas and bands while keeping distortion low, and wide-band coverage lets one switch serve several regional band sets. That simplifies designs that must ship globally with regional variants.

Receive Sensitivity

On the receive side, the low-noise amplifier at the front of the chain sets the sensitivity of the radio. A part such as the SKY65981-11, with a noise figure around 1.5 to 1.7 dB, lifts sensitivity enough to matter for coverage at the cell edge, where signal levels are low and every tenth of a decibel counts.

Designing for Mobile Manufacture

Mobile layouts are dense, so the RF path must be short and impedance-controlled, the ground must be solid, and the high-power transmit path must be kept away from the sensitive receive path. Thermal design matters as well, because the power amplifier runs warm during sustained transmission. BeiLuo's FAE team reviews these details and can measure the finished front end in our RF lab.

Why BeiLuo

We hold mainstream Skyworks parts in regional stock, support volume programs with supply agreements, and ship with import, origin and RoHS documentation. Our engineers help with band planning, coexistence and matching from design-in through production.
